A Reflection On Everything I Learned This Fall Semester

Switching over from high school to college was a huge change. However, I think it was a good one. College really made me gain a different perspective on myself, my goals, and my future and as I end my first semester here in college I realize how much I have learned from it. Before college I thought I had everything figured out, I did my research and watched my YouTube videos. It was until I started my classes that I realized nothing was like what I watched and college took up a ton of my time.

The first and most important thing I've learned from my first semester in college is that I need to focus on myself. In the end, it is my future that matters and if I don't work for it then I might not have one. I always thought college was about making friends and going out but I soon found out that that is not true, let alone that is not even my scene. After getting through this first semester without being able to make friends it really hit me that I should just focus on myself anyways. I need to focus on my career and my health. As much as I would love to find MY person, it has occurred to me that I do not think that will happen anytime soon and I am okay with that. I would rather wait and find the right real friend then quickly get a fake one; it has allowed me the time to adjust to my college life and goals.

Another important thing I have learned is that just because I have an all day, all-you-can-eat dining hall, does not mean I need to treat it like one. A huge goal of mine before college was to not gain the 'freshman 15' and even though I did not gain 15lbs I still gained some weight and since then I have been in the gym almost everyday, as much as possible. Even though I have been working out for a few years I think my body is just shocked at the fact that I don't do sports anymore, I am still active, just not as much. It has truly made me realize how important my health is to me.

Lastly, an important thing I have learned is that it is okay to change your major and there is a high chance that you will. Going into college I thought for sure that I would keep everything the same however, that changed very quickly. I started out as a double major and after a couple weeks of college I decided to stick to one major and pick a minor to go with it. This has definitely taken a weight off of my shoulders knowing that I do not need as many credits and can put all of my focus into one major, especially one that I love and know I want a career in. Of course, there are more things college has taught me however, it is a huge change from high school that will teach you many responsibilities and give you different mindsets on things. College is a wonderful milestone and the start of everyone's journey ahead of them!
