Mornings: How They Set The Tone For Your Day

Just imagine how you would feel when your alarm blares in your ear at 10 am cause you decided to go to bed at 1 am. You're groggy and not rested one bit. Then, maybe you decide to scroll through social media for a few minutes, and without realizing it, it's actually been an hour. Now it's 11, and your day is pretty much half over. When you finally do decide to get out of bed, you're sluggish, have low energy, and have already set your day up for failure. So, let's explore how much your mornings actually do for you.

Why Do Mornings Matter?

As soon as you wake up, your brain starts working. Your first few actions in the morning will predict your entire day, so choose wisely. If you start stressed, your entire day will be stressful, but if you start right, your day will fall into place. Think of your mornings as a foundation. By starting your morning with calmness and intention, you'll feel emotionally stable, have mental clarity, be way more productive throughout the day, and develop a better sense of control.

How To Build A Better Morning Routine

Better...not perfect. So, I know you've heard this many times, but I cannot stress it enough that you should stay off your phone when you wake up. All it does is flood your brain with noise, stress, comparison, and distraction for the rest of your day. Next would be to hydrate as soon as you wake up. Your body always wakes up dehydrated, so you're helping yourself with energy and brain fog by chugging some water in the morning. With this being said, make sure to keep a water bottle next to your bed so it's right there and ready to go. Third is gentle movement, even if you plan on being active later in the day. If anything, it will just make you extra ready for what's coming later, so just do a little stretching or meditating. Lastly, create a moment of stillness. Take time in the morning to slow everything down by praying, journaling, or just breathing.

Please know, this does not mean to wake up at 5 am every morning and get going. What it does mean is that you deserve to have mornings that don't drain you. So always remember that how you start your day becomes how you live it.

- Psalm 118:24 -
